July 2026DECISION GOVERNANCE

Welcome Derek Cunningham

We welcome Derek Cunningham to EcoResonance Institute as an early-career contributor working on our flagship Life Cycle Decision (LCD) project.

Derek is contributing to the user experience, user interface and environmental data architecture of LCD. He is helping translate complex sustainability evidence into an interactive experience that people can explore, understand and use.

From sustainability results to sustainability understanding

Many sustainability tools are designed primarily to calculate a result or generate a final report. Life Cycle Decision is being developed around a different principle: a responsible decision requires understanding what lies behind the result.

Rather than hiding assumptions, boundaries, evidence gaps and trade-offs behind a final number, LCD aims to make them visible through a carefully designed user experience.

The objective is not to overwhelm users with technical information. It is to provide the right information, at the right moment, in a form that can be understood.

This creates an individual learning path through the decision: users can explore what was assessed, understand the assumptions behind a comparison, discover what evidence is available or missing, and see why changing an assumption can change the conclusion.

Designing for responsibility

For EcoResonance, this is an important part of what makes LCD different.

The purpose of LCD is not simply to produce smarter reports or recommend a supposedly “best” environmental choice. It is to help decision-makers understand why a recommendation is being made, under which conditions it remains valid, and what they need to know before acting or communicating a sustainability claim.

Responsibility cannot be delegated entirely to a calculator.

It can, however, be strengthened through better access to evidence, transparent assumptions and an interface designed to help people learn while they make decisions.

Derek is helping us build that experience by connecting environmental data architecture with UX and UI so that the complexity behind sustainability decisions becomes interactive, understandable and useful.

We are pleased to welcome Derek to EcoResonance and to have him contributing to the next stage of Life Cycle Decision.
